River Galtalaekur – Brown Trout
River Galtalaekur is located approx. 100 km east of Reykjavik. The fishing is limited to two rods per day and the permits are provided as day tickets sold together. The river has been fly fishing only as well as catch and release for many years.
The Galtalaekur is a small sensitive and gin clear stream with diverse kind of fishing spots, ideally suited for dry fly fishing and for upstream nymphing. The Galtalaekur boasts a high percentage of brown trout in the 2-6 pound category and several larger ones are hooked every year. The river is fished entirely from the river side. Most of the lies can be covered easily with single handed fly rods.
River Galtalaekur is beautifully surrounded with a magnificent view to Mt. Hekla in the distance. The lava formations as well as the lush vegetation along the river is joy to watch.
